  25. Installing the Dos Program Launcher:
  26. --------------------------------------
  27. The DOS Program Launcher installer will create a directory on the drive 
  28. of your choice and copy the required files to it. A batch file will be
  29. created in the root directory of the chosen drive called "DPLMENU.BAT",
  30. this file eliminates the need to include an entry in the path statement
  31. of your autoexec.bat.
  32.    
  33.    1. Type INSTALL from the directory where the Dos Program Launcher
  34.       files currently reside.
  35.    
  36.    2. Follow the instructions on your screen.

  38.  
  39. The Dos Program Launcher files
  40. -------------------------------
  41. DPLMENU.BAT....... resides in the root directory, starts the DPL
  42. DATASOLV.BAT...... configures the DPL, editing this file is not recommended!
  43. DPL.EXE........... Dos Program Launcher executable
  44. DPL.FRS........... resource file
  45. MENUDATA.CRD...... database that stores the menu configuration
  46. VGA.DEV........... screen driver
  47. README.TXT........ this document
  48. ORDER.TXT......... order form for the Dos Program Launcher
  49. PAZWRD.EXE........ run this to see a forgotten password
  50. PAZWRD.FRS........ resource file
  51. PRINTMNU.EXE...... prints your current menu structure 
  52. PRINTMNU.FRS...... resource file
  53. *.BBX............. printer drivers

  56. Running the Dos Program Launcher:
  57. ----------------------------------

  59.    Type the following at the dos prompt:
  60.             
  61.               DPLMENU
  62.  
  63.    The file "DPLMENU.BAT" can be found in the root directory of the drive you
  64.    you installed the Dos Program Launcher to. This file can be renamed to
  65.    something shorter by typing the following at the dos prompt:
  66.    
  67.         REN DPLMENU.BAT newname.BAT
  68.        (replace "newname" with the name of your choice)
  69.  
  70.       example:  REN DPLMENU.BAT menu.BAT

  73. Setting up the Dos Program Launcher main menu:
  74. -----------------------------------------------

  76.    1. Start the  Dos Program Launcher
  77.  
  78.    2. The first screen that shows on your monitor is the "MAIN MENU".
  79.  
  80.    3. Press "M" or click on the "Menu maintenance" button.
  81.  
  82.    4. You will now be looking at the "Menu Maintenance" screen.
  83.  
  84.    5. Press "M" or click on the "Main menu" button.
  85.  
  86.    6. Now choose which main menu button you would like to modify by
  87.       either typing the letter of the button or clicking on it with the mouse.
  88.  
  89.    7. Enter the text you would like to appear on the button. This button leads 
  90.       to a group of 16 sub menu buttons. Naming your main menu button to
  91.       something that explains the 16 buttons in the sub menu will help to 
  92.       group your programs and make it easier to find a sub menu choice in the
  93.       future.
  94.  
  95.    8. Press "ENTER" to confirm the button text.
  96.  
  97.    9. If you would like to include password protection for this button, 
  98.       enter the password of your choice up to 20 characters in the password 
  99.       box. This option will prevent unauthorized use of the 16 sub menu items 
  100.       attached to this button.

  102.   10. Press "ENTER" to confirm your entry.

  105. Setting up a Dos Program Launcher sub menu:
  106. ---------------------------------------------
  107.  
  108.    1. From the Main Menu screen choose "Menu maintenance".
  109.  
  110.    2. Then choose "Sub Menu" by pressing "S" or click on the "Sub Menu" button.
  111.  
  112.    3. You will now be asked "Which sub menu group would you like to change".
  113.  
  114.    4. Choose a sub menu item by pressing the letter or clicking on it with the
  115.       mouse.
  116.  
  117.    5. The screen changes and opens up to 16 sub menu buttons. Choose which
  118.       button you would like to attach a program to.
  119.  
  120.    6. Above the buttons you will notice some white boxes. This is where you
  121.       provide information to help the Dos Program Launcher, find and run
  122.       the program you are attaching to the chosen sub menu item.
  123.  
  124.    7. Enter the name of the program, maximum of 38 characters.
  125.  
  126.    8. Enter the drive and directory where the program can be found on your
  127.       hard drive.
  128.  
  129.    9. Enter the dos filename of the program. Usually the extension of the
  130.       filename will be either "filename.EXE" or "filename.COM". If a batch 
  131.       file exists for the EXE or COM file you have entered, the Dos Program 
  132.       Launcher will automatically insert BAT in place of EXE or COM.
  133.  
  134.   10. Pause after running the program is only used if the program you are 
  135.       running does not pause at the end of scrolling text to the screen. This
  136.       feature is usually used with dos functions such as "DIR", which will
  137.       display a directories contents and not stop at the end. The dos function
  138.       "MEM" will display available memory on your computer but will not
  139.       pause after displaying. Using the "pause after running y/n" feature 
  140.       will stop the output so you can view the information before returning
  141.       to the Dos Program Launcher.

  143.   11. The command line option is used when you would like to pass parameters
  144.       to the program you are running. For example if you use a drawing 
  145.       program that lets you pass it the drawing you would like loaded as your 
  146.       program is loading, you would type in the drawing filename complete with 
  147.       the full path in the "Command line" box. This is also used for adding 
  148.       switches to the program you are using.

  151. Setting up "Passwords"
  152. ----------------------- 
  153.  
  154.    1. Choose "Menu maintenance" from the Main Menu screen.
  155.  
  156.    2. Press "p" or click on the "Passwords" button.
  157.  
  158.    3. To password protect the "Menu maintenance" function enter a password
  159.       of your choice in the first box, up to a maximum of 20 characters.
  160.  
  161.    4. To password protect the "ESC to dos" button, enter the password of your
  162.       choice in the second box, up to a maximum of 20 characters.
  163.  
  164.    5. The "ENTER" key confirms the entries.
  165.  
  166.    6. To attach a password to a main menu button choose "Main menu" from 
  167.       the Menu Maintenance screen, choose the button you would like to
  168.       password protect, enter the password of your choice in the second box.

  170.    7. To attach a password to a sub menu button choose "Sub menu" from 
  171.       the Menu Maintenance screen, choose the sub menu group, and finally
  172.       the sub menu button. Enter the password of your choice in the top
  173.       right hand box.

  175.    8. Whenever you try to use the functions you have attached a password to,
  176.       the Dos Program Launcher will ask for a password. You have 3 tries 
  177.       before security will return you to the current screen.

  180. Setting up the Screen Saver
  181. ----------------------------

  183.    1. From the menu maintenance screen, press "C" or click on the 
  184.       "Screen Saver" button.
  185.  
  186.    2. Type in a number from 1-30 (minutes). Entering a "0" disables the
  187.       screen saver.
  188.  
  189.    3. The "ENTER" key confirms the entry.
  190.  
  191.    4. The screen saver will automatically engage after the preset time, when 
  192.       there is no activity reported from the keyboard or mouse.

  195. Printing a Menu Structure
  196. --------------------------

  198.    1. From within the directory where the Dos Program Launcher resides
  199.       usually "\dplmenu", type "printmnu" and follow the on-screen
  200.       instructions. You may print all or individual menu structures.

  203. Should you forget your password...
  204. -----------------------------------
  205.       From within the Dos Program Launcher directory ("\dplmenu"),
  206.      - type "pazwrd"
  207.       This will display your passwords on-screen.

  213. Upon use of the Dos Program Launcher, Datasolv Technologies (DT), will in no
  214. event be liable for damages, whether incidental, consequential or otherwise
  215. arising from product deficiencies or errors in content. THIS CONSTITUTES DT's
  216. SOLE WARRANTY AND CONDITIONS, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, AND YOU WAIVE ALL OTHER 
  217. WARRANTIES AND CONDITIONS INCLUDING WITHOUT LIMITATIONS WARRANTIES AND 
  218. CONDITIONS OF MERCHANTABILITY OR FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE. This 
  219. agreement may not be modified. This agreement shall be governed by the laws
  220. of the Province of British Columbia, Canada.
